Met museum deals

Since it was founded in , The Met has always aspired to be more than a treasury of rare and beautiful objects. Most people come to a museum for the art inside. And with masterpieces on par with the Louvre, it doesn't disappoint. But the building alone is worth the trip.

We bought tickets in advance, but it turns out that you have to bring the printout to one of the ticket kiosks in the lobby, where you scan the printout and the machine prints a sticker that you need to wear to get in to the exhibits. It would have been just as fast and easier to just buy our tickets at the kiosk. No benefit to buying in advance that we could see. I think so, depending on when you intend to visit. If you are visiting during the Summer or during weekends, the lines could be long.

No totally unnecessary. The admission is a donation.

I could be off on that. Yes, worth it for the additional entry benefits. Something else useful is the Empty Met, when you get to go in from am - am with a docent, before the crowds arrive.

Expensive but worth it for a first time visitor to get to see some of the most popular works without the crowds around you. Depending on how long you will be in New York, and whether you would like to take in the museum in smaller doses My husband and I were just there o er Easter and went to the Met on 3 different days, spending hours each day, and it was the best!! Tip: All of your saved places can be found here in My Trips. If you pay in person, you can pay whatever you choose to pay, but you must pay something.

That's why there are sometimes lines, because everyone must pay something. I'll gently suggest that paying less than suggested admission is intended for those who cannot afford to pay full price, not for those looking for a deal. No one at the museum will make you feel uncomfortable for paying less than full price.

Also note that there is no contradiction in the information given on the website: the advantage of buying the tickets ahead of time is that even if you are paying full price, you do not have the inconvenience of standing in a long line waiting to get to a cashier. I felt strangle them with their camera straps, they are so cheap! I just looked up their site as part of my research and it says it is free entry from 4pm-8pm on Fridays which is perfect as we get into NYC on a Friday lunch time.

Although we will make a donation anyhow, to support them. Wow, great info. We are a family of six and I really wanted to visit the Met but was worried that if we only had a short amount of time it would be a lot to spend. I think it is great to still make a reasonable contribution to support them but it is also good to know that we can pay a bit less too. As a New Yorker--who always pays full price no matter how many times I go or how long I stay I too get annoyed at tourists who don't feel it is necessary to pay for their visit. If you can afford to fly to NYC you can afford to go to the museum.

Budget appropriately and that is that. Cultural institutions all receive funding from the city. Due to tight financial times funding is way way down. It is not appropriate for those who do not have financial need to take advantage of the entrance policy. Whatever rationale you wish to use, discussing this and paying less than the suggested entrance fee is really providing a disservice to NY'ers and the supporters of the wonderul institutions that are available here.

To think,, flying from halfway around the world, and attempting to save on a museum of such quality, when a few less soda's, beer, or wine would more than equal these musem costs, just doesn't wash with being unable to pay. The purpose of the reduced entrance fee, "pay what you wish", is truly intended for the needy and poor arts and culture seeker, not the international traveler.

I didn't see a reference to free entry on the website when I looked just now. If that's the case it's a new policy, as far as I know. Can you tell me where exactly you saw this? New York City.
